Canyon 800 m Deep

Protected from 1909 under the name Mukuntuweap, and raised to a national park ten years later. The canyon runs some 800 metres deep. The Bureau regrets the change of name and has retained the older one in its own files. The highest ground stands at 2660 metres, on Horse Ranch Mountain, against 1117 metres at Coalpits Wash: fifteen hundred metres of difference, which the register notes and the walker discovers. The bighorn on the badge is drawn on the sandstone rather than beneath it, as is its habit.
