Laid out in 1816 and completed in 1846, beneath a dome of fifty-three metres. The Bureau finds thirty years for a public square unremarkable. The church was begun by one sovereign and finished by another, who kept the colonnade and changed its purpose. The dome is held to answer the Pantheon in Rome, at a distance of some seventeen centuries. The Bureau has compared the two entries in its register and declines to rank them, noting that the later one at least had the earlier to consult.

The badge is drawn, not photographed. Each drawing works from a reference image in the public domain or under a free licence — a photochrom print, a photograph, an etching. Here is the one used for this destination, and why it was chosen.

The drawing follows a photochrom print of about 1890-1900 from the Photochrom Print Collection, held by the Library of Congress. It shows the Piazza del Plebiscito and the semicircular colonnade of San Francesco di Paola. An earlier attempt took the bay as its subject: it proved impossible to frame within a badge, eight times over. The square is laid out in 1816 and finished in 1846: thirty years, which the Bureau does not find remarkable for a public square. The dome of San Francesco di Paola rises to fifty-three metres, the figure printed on the band. The semicircular colonnade beside it is the reason for the framing: it closes the square in a single gesture, and it is that gesture the badge keeps.
