Fires by Permit Only
Permits are issued at the station for a fire of stated size and returned at dawn with the ash weighed. The station has refused four applications since 1958 and cannot say which, the ledger recording only the approvals. The Bureau holds that a register of permissions is not a register of refusals, and has asked for the second.
